Postgraduate students studying regeneration at Coventry University have been invited to take part in the international Urban 2020 competition, sponsored by IT giant Cisco.

The University is one of only five universities invited to take part in this prestigious competition, whose judging panel includes the star architect Ken Shuttleworth,  the Royal Instituite of British Archiotecture (RIBA), Royal Society of Arts (RSA), The Guardian, and Eden Project among others. Students have been asked to develop models for an ‘Urban Connected Community of the Future’.

Rachel Granger, Principal Lecturer in Urban Regeneration has been invited to join the prestigious scientific committee of the International Urban Development Association.

Announced in Riga at the World Urban Development Congress, Rachel stated that ‘the invitation was an honour and that she was looking forward to working with so many esteemed academics from international universities on global urban issues’.  Watch this space…

Kate Frankova, final year BA Geography and Tourism student has been awarded a national prize from the Academy for Sustainable Communities.

Kate Frankova’s winning proposal “Make your choice – choose your bench” seeks to commission budding artists to improve the urban design of towns and cities would benefit both creative professionals as well as urban design strategies.

Receiving both a £1000 cheque and all expenses paid four week work placement at ARUP, Kate has been approached by professionals to put her proposal into practice in real towns and cities.
